Abstract

This study aims to explore the perception of parents from lower middle economic backgrounds about the importance of education for children, as well as the obstacles and supporting factors that affect its realization. The research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation (including school documents, report cards, and photos of learning conditions at home). The informants were selected by purposive sampling as many as 50 parents who have active children in school from elementary to high school in District X, Regency Y. The results show that although most informants have a very positive perception — viewing education as a path to improving the future, getting decent work, and improving family well-being economic barriers remain the dominant factor limiting the realization of these expectations. Tuition fees, school supplies, transportation, and lack of home-learning facilities are the main obstacles that often arise. In addition, the lack of information regarding scholarships and educational aid also exacerbates the gap between expectations and reality. On the other hand, moral support from parents, children's motivation, communication with schools, and the existence of external assistance have proven to be significant supporting factors for the realization of education.
